Case Study

Telecom Italia  (2007)

Alpitel successfully completed the cleanup from obsolete telecommunication devices of an industrial area (about 200 square metres) in the central site named “Roma Colonna”, located in Via S. Maria. In this location, the upgrade, the overturning and the compaction of the old system were planned. Firstly, a new room was setup for storing all the devices to be removed, in order to make space for the replacement and upgrade the electric and air-conditioning systems. Secondly, Alpitel layout out all the optical fibre and copper connections between the different transmission rooms. Alpitel also replaced the city exchange and three major network’s platforms which were particularly complex: the GBE network of Roma’s city, IPTV feeders  and the RUPA nodes that were located in the hub. In addition, Alpitel carried out the compaction and the optimization of the remaining ITAPAC and Executive networks. All the networks on which Alpitel worked (IPTV, GBE, RUPA networks, Executive Customer and ITAPAC networks, and telephone traditional networks) served major customers, as it was predictable considering the central location. The complexity of the upgrade work and the importance of the customers linked to this hub located in the heart of Rome made this project a very interesting and prestigious undertaking.
